1990 Aperto Venice

Biennale di Venetia

At the 44th Venice Biennale - Aperto, an antenna will be mounted on the Arsenale, receiving live weather data from the Meteosat4 satellite. The images are assembled line by line - they can be seen on one control monitors integrated into the wall of the booth. The process of creation is the most important part of the installation. It takes four minutes to create a complete image with 900 lines. The images of the last 6 hours are shown in a time-lapse film. The short film sequence is projected from the ceiling onto a three-meter disc on the floor. The earth can be walked on as a disk. There were 5 columns on the disk, which used sensors to convert the clouds into various sounds. The movements of the clouds generated the sound.
